We bought 2 airline round trip tickets two month ago to Frankfurt, Germany from British Airways via an on-line agency.  It was a 1 stop flight both ways. The itinerary was New York – London – Frankfurt and back Frankfurt – London – New York.  By the date of the flight we decided to change our plans and just stay in London eliminating Frankfurt.

So we did. The problem occurred on the way back when we showed up at the London airport and learned that all our remaining tickets were canceled. We asked the British airways representatives to help us get back home but they refused to reinstate our tickets saying there was nothing they could do for us. Since we did not continue our trip they invalidated all our remaining tickets. We had no idea such thing could happen since we paid for all the tickets in advance. In other words they stole our money and caused us a significunt financial  damage. We had to buy two new full price one way tickets from another carrier to get back home.

My verdict

AUTHOR: A - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, September 10, 2014

My verdict to the air travel is a thumb down. Not only is it disgusting and humiliating to go through the airport  security check, but everything else is as disgusting: all kinds of additional charges, squashing knees and rubbing shoulders of the economy class most people fly, and praying to get there alive. Plus some little surprises like I have gotten this time, paying a few extra grands. Thank you. No more. Enjoy flying, guys.

Their Policy is Standard Policy

AUTHOR: Robert - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, September 10, 2014

This policy you are so much against, is the exact same policy almost every airline has.  That's right regardless of the airline it is very likely they would have done the EXACT same thing.    That's right once you miss a segment of your flight ALL remaining segments are automatically cancelled without refund."

Airlines do this because many people have figured out that sometimes you can "short" your itinerary and save money.  That is it may be cheaper to go from City A to City C through City B, than it is to go from City A to B directly.  So some people will book A-B-C and just get off at B.  This cancellation rule is one way to close that loophole to keep people from doing that.  I'm not going to go into the why these routes are cheaper, but it can happen.

Now, as for you saying you didn't know.  Okay most likely when you bought tickets from this "online" site there was a point where you were to check, mark, or press something that says something similar to "I have read and agree to all of the terms of this ticket".  Now, if none of the terms they presented didn't state anything about you skipping a flight then you may have a case against the ONLINE SITE.  But my guess is that when you complain to them they will be more than happy to show you where that term was in what you agreed to.

The ironic thing is that if you had just contacted the airline in advance, not only would it probably have not cost you any more money.  You may have had a credit you could use on BA(or one of it's partner airlines) on a future trip.

Oh and you notice how I said "almost" every airline has this policy.  Well there is one exception I know about.  Southwest Airlines has perhaps the most generous "No Show" policies around.  There was a time up until a short time ago that had it where if you just missed your flight and didn't notify them they would still give you credit toward another flight.  But even they have had to change because people were taking advantage of it.  So now, you have to contact them an entire 10 minutes before your flight is scheduled to depart.    Of course this wouldn't help you here either because you failed to even contact them until you showed up for your return trip.

Heartless thieves

Yes, now I learned I had made a mistake. I still disagree with their policy. I paid for all 4 tickets, so what the hell? I asked them to help me get home but was refused. Most likely they had a couple of empty seats on a plane and could treat me differently. Everybody makes mistakes. So what now? Will they ever see a penny from me? I can afford such mistakes. I'm not complaining. I posted this story for the others, living on a tight budget, having no credit cards. They will be screwed a big time. By the way, they could be your inexperienced kids.

So....

AUTHOR: Tyg - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, September 10, 2014

So YOU changed your plans and Im betting that YOU did not call the airline and explain what YOU wanted to do, yet for some mysterious reason, THEY are the bad guys. You do realize that THEY do not have TELEPATHY?? That unless YOU call and contact them and let THEM know what YOUR plans are, that THEY are going to do what is in their policy. YOU made ASSUMPTIONS!!! when YOU assume YOU do so at YOUR own risk. Notice the emphasis on YOU?? YOU are attempting to hold responsible a business that HAD NO IDEA what you CHOSE to do AFTER you reached YOUR destination. Heres a thought, instead of BLAMING others for what is CLEARLY YOUR FAULT, try being more MATURE. THIS IS ALL ON THE CHOICES YOU MADE!!!! If YOU miss a flight, then guess what, your tickets are invalidated. One would THINK as an ADULT that YOU would understand, you know instead of acting like a petulant little child. YOU have NOT been ripped off. Atleast NOT by this company. YOU ripped YOURSELF off. YOU did not do what was needed in order to do as you chose to do. Instead of spending all that time online looking for someplace to whine about how YOU screwed yourself over, YOU should have taken maybe 10-15 mins and MADE A PHONE CALL!!!!! YOU did not do that, so YOU had to pay FULL PRICE for what amounts to YOUR stup!dity. When are consumers like yourself going to grow the hell up??? Its becoming a almost hourly event that some dipwad hops on RoR and WHINES about a ripoff that isn't a ripoff. YOU couldn't be BOTHERED to even make a phone call, how in any stretch of the imagination can you sit there and blame THEM??? It really boggles the mind!!! YOU made the choice, it was YOUR responsibility to ensure your travel plans would continue, and ALL it would have cost YOU is a few mins of your time!!! YEP!!!! Youre a bright one..........NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
