I visited South Beach Classics with my wife and daughter in order to get my daughter an old Bug for her 20th birthday.First time we went the car we were highly interested in would not start. I think of myself as a serious buyer. If I am here with my family it means I intend to act on it if I like it. But no effort were made on that day to actually start the car for us when it was just suppose to be a dead battery. I was not sure I wanted to come back but my daughter thought the car was cute so I asked when would be a good time to come back. The response was vague. Ted talks a lot. But does not give a straight answer. I was still advised to leave a deposit... you know... just in case someone else was interested in it in the meantime. I hesitated but decided not to. Glad I did not! We gave it 2 days.

2 days later... well... same exact story... But on top we were told we had to give it time in order to fix the car. I asked if it was just a dead battery or if they had found out something wrong with the car. Then again a lot of talk for not much straight answer. I am a patient man and I would like to please my daughter, so we gave it a little more time. Though I was curious as why the car was still not starting. Was it just the battery or had nobody even taken the time to look at it?We had high expectations on our 3rd visit... It was beyond anything that we expected...I observed the scene from a professional point of view because I am a psychologist. At first, my wife, my daughter and I went out back by ourselves to check on the car. It was still here. In the same exact spot. When we came back inside the scene in front of our eyes was chocking. At first we could hear a lady (we realized later it was Robin) screaming that she would not care if he was dead. Then Ted barged in, yelling, insulting the lady. Accusations of alcoholism, drug addictions were made. Demeaning professional remarks also. At that point I asked my wife and daughter to go out the building. It did not seem to matter that the scene was taking place in front of customers. Then the man jumped on the woman and became physical. It took 2 men to separate them. It was chocking.

The sad part, and from my professional outlook on such a situation is that the man was uncontrolable while the woman knew exactly what buttons to push to make him lose control on purpose. So reality seems far from what is on TV. And most likely the reason why the car we were interested in could not even get started in more than a week. No business can be ran in such conditions. We got an extremely poor service in spite of our patience to try to make a deal. Witnessed an unbelievable scene. I will not go back there again. I will not support a business where customers are ignored. I will not support a business led in violence.

Buggy Bug

AUTHOR: Ted Vernon - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, September 22, 2016

With over 360 very old cars sometimes things fall through the cracks, I am sorry about your experience with the bug you wanted for your daughter, I do not recall your visit so not sure if you dealt with me. As far as violence in our workplace, we have zero tolerance for any such behavior and I can assure you that if I had heard of any such behavior I would have not tolerated it for one second. I agree with you such behavior deserves zero tolerance. I hope that when you are back in Miami you give us another chance. I have a new general manager who has improved our service. Sincerely Ted

Hellish place with a hellish woman Robin Vernon

Out of this world visit to South Beach Classics. Not sure how this business is holding on. It looks run down. Dirty. Nobody to help out. And in the actual showroom Mrs Vernon was screaming about her husband. Insulting. Threatening. I had never seen such a display of personal problems in a place of business. The few people there just left. This type of public hysteria shows a lack of professionalism.

Also a sad experience with South Beach Classics and Robin Vernon

AUTHOR: MCS - (USA)

I also had an issue buying a car from this dealer.During my trip to Miami I bought a car from this dealer and wanted to have it shipped back home.

If the place is nice to visit and if Ted Vernon was the character we would expect I was surprised by the rudeness of his wife. While at the dealership, we could clearly hear her say to her male employee who had helped us out to say she was not here so she would not have to come out of her office to say hi (the office door was open and we were standing in front of it). It can be understandable that she is busy but she could have been quiet and have the employee come up with a simple excuse. Fame brings fans. No fame without them!

Then, the torture started! After my prompt payment I expected a fast shipping. But that did not happen and I made countless calls to Robin Vernon to figure out why.  It was hard to reach her since she does not seem to be at the office very often. Then, it was impossible to get a clear answer. You'd think she would try and help and be sorry for the situation but not at all. She was rude and tried to make me feel I was the one who had to be patient. She probably thinks she can turn any situation by sweet voicing a guy and calling him honey, but when that does not work... she gets nasty! I think I was patient enough. It took more than 90 days!  And since then the car is nothing but trouble. I now feel it was over priced. I know it was sold "as is" so there is nothing that can be done. And anyway I don't think I would want to deal with her on any matter ever again and I will deal with my local network to bring it back into shape.

To start: I have never spoken to or been withing 20 miles of this place.

But I have seen this type of communication problem many times at various dealerships I have worked in.

The dealer (and salesman are the same in this case) doesn't want you to see what is or was wrong with the car as that will put you off. Extra big gulp of that with Classic cars is the perception that if thats wrong what else is wrong?

So he tries to save his sale by getting a deposit so you will have to come back.

Because he has no freaking Idea why the battery is dead (or whatever else) he can't commit to a "Be Back" time. Be back is acctually a common tecnical term in auto sales.

Because you are the detail oriented person you are you want an exact time to return, something he has no idea how to predict.

The way a salesman that was on his toes would handle it is to say How about tomorrow at 4 (for example) Then ask for your number if the car sells before then.

So not defending the dealer, just pointing out the salesman miss-read the situation and dropped the ball.
