We were first contacted by GuruAid at the end of May, 2014. Both of our computers were slow and unresponsive. I was looking for anti-virus software to download when their site came up. After calling and speaking to a representative, he assured us that they could resolve our problems.

They charged us a fee of $100.00, with a guarantee of complete satisfaction. They gained remote access and began cleaning our files. For a few days the computers ran OK, but never as fast as they were on the first day. After we paid them the $100.00, they kept pursuing us to commit to a year long coverage for an additional $169.00. We declined at the time, and told them we wanted to see how our computers responded.

We still had problems with our computers, namely slow, pop=up warnings, having to manually shut down, not being able to retrieve our email and the computers completely freezing up. After signing up we decided to get the year long coverage. There was a disagreement however on the amount quoted. Now, instead of the additional $169.00, they requested $179.00.

After going back and forth they finally relented to the original quote. The future sessions were much different, however. We were told by GuruAid that because our Juno emails were local, they could not help us. They also said that our Windows XP had expired, for support, so there was no help available for that. We were also told that our computers lacked enough RAM to run the programs we used.

All of this advice came after we paid the additional $169.00. Subsequent follow up phone calls with problems were attempted to be taken care of, with very little success. We were required to sit at the computer for hours, while they sifted through our files. Things became much worse, when with 6 months remaining on our contract. Again, first order of business was to try to shake more money from us.

Their last recommendation of buying a new computer, but retaining their services was the final straw. This company did try to fix our computers, but without success. In the beginning we were told that they would correct the issues or refund our money back. They reneged on their original promise to bring the computers back to full speed, or refund our money, instead trying to get more money from us. They will not refund our money, even though they have not solved our problems. We seek a full refund and to no longer be associated with GuruAid.

My last call to GuruAid was to request a refund, which they denied and again attempted to fix the computer. After spending almost 3 hours at my computer while they tried to make repairs, I had enough.
