Jefferson Capital Stystems I got an alert on Equifax that a new account had been opened in my name. I looked a my credit report and it said that I was in collecions from Jefferson Capital Sytems for $1642.00. I have no idea what this is about and so I went on google to ind their phone # and it looks like other people have been getting ripped off by this company. What should I do? Saint Cloud Minnesota

janesville, WisconsinI was alerted to a new account opened in my name. I looked at my credit report and it said that Jefferson Capitol Systems had put me in collection for $1642.00. I have no idea what this is for. I do have a few other things is was behind on but have been catching up. I don't recall nor does it show on my report that I owe That amount. I looked on Google to find the phone number for this co. and it looked like a lot of other people were getting ripped off by this company too. What should I do?

What to do
Yes, i signed up with them to pay off a payday loan place that i owed years ago.
I paid $140.00. Once i made the arrangments, they reported to all 3 credit companies.
I've launched an investigation with all 3 credit reporting agencies.
Experian has removed them from my report and equifax and transunion are investigating it also and i hope they take them off of those.
also, if you use online banking, view and print your statements and copies of checks that were made out to them. i'm waiting on the credit card so i can see what's owed on it even though it has a small limit and i going to cut up the card.
This is one of the worst third party collection agencies!

I also had a problem with Jefferson Capital Systems about a debt that had been paid over 5 years ago. I contacted them several times and they were no help at all. I then filed claims against them with the Better Business Bureau (www.bbb.org) and the Federal Trades Commission (www.ftc.gov).
A few weeks later I recieved a letter from Jefferson Capital informing me that they had recieved the complaint I made against them through the Better Business Bureau and while acknowledging no wrongdoing on their own part stated that they were terminating all collection action, terminating my file, and informing all the credit agencies to remove any negative comments they had left on my credit reports.
This company is an absolute rip off and will do anything they can to take advantage of you. Your only option is to take action. They will not respond to anything except filing claims against them and the threat of lawsuits. Once they recieve that they are very quick to resolve any of your issues.
